Why should I exfoliate my face?
Your skin is constantly regenerating, which means that dead cells on the skin’s surface dry out, fall off and are replaced by new ones. This process happens quite naturally, but sometimes the things we apply to our skin like moisturiser or make up, can make it harder for the dead cells to come away as nature intended! When these cells are prevented from falling away, they can build up and this can result in problems such as dry, dull, rough textured skin, blocked pores, spots and blemishes. Happily, exfoliation is part of the solution! By exfoliating your skin, you are encouraging removal of the old, dead skin cells and promoting the production of new replacement skin cells. Exfoliation helps to unclog your pores, improve your skin texture and even enhance the absorption of your skincare products! Sweeping away dead skin cells will result in glowing, radiant skin.
How should I exfoliate my face?
You can exfoliate your face using physical or chemical means. Physical exfoliators remove the dead skin cells by rubbing or brushing them away. Examples of physical exfoliators include facial brushes or cloths and products containing fine abrasive particles. Chemical exfoliators work by dissolving away the ‘glue’ that holds the dead skin cells together. You can use either of these methods or a combination of the two to effectively exfoliate your skin. Our Gentle Facial Exfoliator contains small grains of crushed organic apricot seed to gently yet effectively remove dead skin cells. These grains are gentle, safe and biodegradable. They have a low abrasive action, so is ideal for use on the delicate skin of the face. Gently massage a fingertip of product into the face using small circular movements, continuing for around 3 minutes. Don’t be heavy handed – just glide the exfoliator over the skin and let the fine particles do their job, that way your skin feels great and you don’t over-scrub it. Remove the excess with a cotton pad then remove the remainder with a warm, damp muslin cloth or face flannel. Finish with a spritz of toner and your favourite moisturiser.
How often should I exfoliate my face?
We recommend exfoliating once or twice a week.If you have frail capillaries, or reddened skin massage in a little of our rejuvenating serum prior to using the exfoliator to act as an extra layer of protection for your skin. And if you notice sensitivity or extra redness, exfoliate only once a week. We do not believe it is necessary or beneficial to the skin to exfoliate more harshly. The skin naturally sloughs off dead skin cells. You just need to give it a little help to reveal the glowing fresh skin beneath.
Why is Gentle Facial Exfoliator so good?
In addition to the gentle yet extremely effective, ground apricot seed exfoliant, which does an excellent job of removing dry and aged layers of skin whilst improving blood circulation, Gentle Facial Exfoliator also contains beautiful certified organic oils to deeply penetrate and cleanse your skin without drying, and the following certified organic herbal extracts:
- Burdock for restoring skin tone and smoothness and soothing eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
- Yarrow to reduce pores and the appearance of wrinkles.
- Comfrey to promote repair as this herb heals really quickly! There are cautions about this herb as it is so strong, but the small percentage that we use is well within safe guidelines.
